Laurel Dispatch is free, and it stays that way because people choose to support it. It's an independent, self-hosted project with no ads, no agency funding, and no paywall. It listens to publicly-broadcast Transylvania County fire radio, transcribes and maps it in real time, and puts it here for anyone to follow. The aim is a clear, honest view of what the county is dispatching: no login, no tracking, nothing sold, and nothing dressed up as more than it is.

There are real, recurring costs behind free software like this, and I cover them out of pocket. That's a deliberate choice, and it's how strongly I feel about keeping a tool like this independent and open to everyone.
